(sic)boyの音楽性を語るうえで、エモラップという言葉は欠かせない。ロック、ハードコアパンク、またそれらのサブジャンルから 引き継がれている音楽的側面において、(sic)boy は国内におけるエモラップシーンにおいて重要な役割を担っている。

Lil Peep、Juice WRLD などエモラップというジャンルを確立し 世界に広めたラッパーは、影響を受けたアーティストとしてそれぞれ Red Hot Chili Peppers、Escape The Fate などHip Hop 外のアーティスト名を挙げている。 海外のカルチャーの中で作り上げられたエモラップは、 熟成されてから海を越え日本で流行していったが、(sic)boyはその点彼らとは全く異なる道を歩んできた。

L’Arc-en-Ciel と同名タイトルの「Heaven’s Drive」からも分かる通り、 (sic)boy は L’Arc-en-Ciel の Hyde から大きな影響を受けている。高校時代は SiM やマキシマムザホルモンをカバーしていたりと、ラッパーとしては異色の音楽キャリアを歩んできた。 そうして積み上げたロックサウンドはその後ヒップホップに出会うことで進化を遂げ、 日本でしか生まれ得ない唯一無二のエモラップを作り上げてきた。

海外のラッパーと同じようにサウンドクラウドに楽曲をアップロードしていくと、Nick Mira が Juice WRLD に出会い「Lucid Dreams」が生まれたように、 (sic)boy は KM と出会いブレイクソングを量産していく。そして彼の活動は瞬く間に海外にも広がっていく。Wez Period、Phem に加え、日本のヒップホップにも多大な影響を与えたlil aaron とも楽曲をリリース。 ただ単に海外のラッパーとコラボしたのではない。 日本で育ち、日本の音楽から影響を受け、 オリジナルのエモラップを開拓してきた (sic)boy が、同時期に海外でカルチャーを築いてきたアーティストと世界同期し、 文化を先に進めたという点に重要な価値がある。3 年前に lil aaron に DM を送っていた (sic)boy が、 わずか数年で自身の地位を確立し、対等に渡り合えるまでに成長を遂げた点も特筆すべきであろう。

そして直近の楽曲では、(sic)boy がキャリア初期からインタビューで名前を挙げていた nothing,nowhere. とのコラボも遂に実現させている。nothing,nowhere. は 2015 年からサウンドクラウドに楽曲を投稿し、そこから大手メディアからフックアップ され、現在は ONE OK ROCK と同じFueled By Ramen から楽曲をリリースしている。(sic)boy はメイクアップした姿で世間に登場するのに対し、nothing,nowhere. は活動初期にほとんど顔を出さないなど、対照的なキャリア初期を歩んできた。ただ芯にある精神性や音楽性は共鳴していた。 日本とアメリカの全く異なる環境で育ち、それぞれ確立した音楽が今混じり合ったこと に大きな意味がある。シーンを先に進めるアーティストとして、 次の一手から目が話せない。

The term "Emo-Rap" is essential to (sic)boy's musicality. In the musical aspects inherited from rock, hardcore punk, and their subgenres and subgenres of these genres, (sic)boy plays an important role in the emo-rap scene in Japan.

Rappers such as Lil Peep and Juice WRLD, who established the Emo-Rap genre and spread it around the world, have mentioned that they were influenced by the artists outside Hip Hop genre, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Escape The Fate, respectively. Emo rap, which was created in foreign cultures, matured and then crossed the ocean to become popular in Japan, but (sic)boy has taken a completely different path.

As evidenced by his song "Heaven 's Drive," which shares the same title as L'Arc-en-Ciel, (sic)boy is heavily influenced by L'Arc-en-Ciel's Hyde. In high school, he covered SiM and Maximum the Hormone, and has had a unique musical career as a rapper.

The rock sound he has developed in this way evolved when he encountered hip-hop, and he has created a unique emo-rap style that could only have come out of Japan. Uploading songs to Soundcloud like other international rappers, (sic)boy met KM, who is music producer and mass-produces breakthrough songs, just as Nick Mira met Juice WRLD and "Lucid Dreams" was born.

In addition to Wez Period and Phem, he also released music with lil aaron, who has had a great influence on Japanese hip-hop. He did not just collaborate with foreign rappers.The important value lies in the fact that (sic)boy, who grew up in Japan, was influenced by Japanese music, and pioneered original emo rap, has synchronized with artists who were building culture overseas at the same time, and has advanced the culture.

In just a few years, it is also worth mentioning that (sic)boy, who sent a DM to lil aaron three years ago, has established himself and has grown to the point where he can compete on equal terms.

As artists who is moving the scene forward, we cannot wait to see what his next move will be.
